Privacy Policy

1. Who is responsible for the website

North & Habit is an independent lifestyle publication operating through northandhabit.info. References to “we”, “our” and “us” in this document mean the editorial team responsible for this website. We are based in Manchester, United Kingdom. General enquiries about the handling of personal information can be sent to [email protected]. We ask visitors to contact us if they want to understand how a particular message has been handled. This policy concerns the North & Habit website and not independently operated websites that may be linked in an article. It should be read alongside our Terms of Use and Cookie Policy.

2. Information you choose to provide

The contact form asks for a name and email address so that we can identify and respond to an enquiry. A telephone number and the text of a message are optional. We also record whether you selected the required consent checkbox. Please send only information relevant to your editorial question or suggestion. We do not ask for card details, passwords, identity documents or sensitive personal information. If you voluntarily provide information not required for the enquiry, we may need to remove it or limit how it is processed. You can browse the articles without creating an account or using the form.

3. Why information is processed

We use the contact details submitted through the form to receive, review and, where appropriate, respond to editorial enquiries. We may also use the content of a suggestion to help decide which general subjects to cover. These activities are limited to the purpose explained next to the form. We do not use submitted information to create advertising profiles or sell lists of visitors. If a different use becomes necessary, we will first consider the applicable legal requirements and whether additional information or permission is needed. We aim to keep the amount of personal data involved proportionate to the enquiry.

4. Legal grounds

In the United Kingdom, relevant data-protection requirements include the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act 2018. Contact information provided with the form is handled on the basis of the consent indicated at submission and, where applicable, our legitimate interest in handling genuine messages and keeping the website secure. Consent can be withdrawn for future use by contacting us, although that does not undo actions already lawfully completed. We assess any request in the context of our legal duties, technical records and the reason the information was originally provided. We do not treat a website visit as consent to optional tracking.

5. Server and security information

The website uses a PHP session to support form security and prevent repeated or unauthorised submissions. A session cookie may be created to maintain the verification token between loading and submitting the form. The server or hosting provider may also process routine connection information, including IP addresses, timestamps, browser identifiers and requests, for performance, error logging and protection against abuse. The contact form writes accepted enquiries into a restricted file on the web server. Those files are not part of public web pages. Technical safeguards reduce risk but cannot make an internet service completely immune to errors or unauthorised access.

6. Recipients and service providers

Access to submitted messages should be limited to authorised people who need the information to review or answer enquiries. Hosting and infrastructure providers may process some technical information on our behalf when operating the website. We do not publish visitors’ personal messages or provide contact details to commercial mailing-list sellers. When a request must be handled by a service provider, we aim to limit access to the information necessary for that service and apply the appropriate contractual or legal safeguards. External reference links lead to independent websites with their own privacy practices, which visitors should review separately.

7. Storage and retention

Contact messages are kept only while reasonably necessary to manage correspondence, address related follow-up questions and meet applicable responsibilities. We review stored enquiries periodically and delete material that is no longer needed, subject to legitimate operational and legal requirements. Website logs, session records and local cookie preferences may follow different operational lifecycles. We do not promise that every record disappears at a fixed interval when retention also depends on hosting backups or legally required records. If you would like us to consider deleting an identifiable enquiry, email the editorial contact address and provide enough detail for us to locate it without unnecessarily sharing additional personal information.

8. Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, individuals may have rights to request access to personal data, correction of inaccurate information, erasure, restriction of processing, objection to certain uses and portability of eligible information. There may also be a right to withdraw consent. These rights are subject to legal conditions and exceptions; they do not always apply to every record or every processing activity. We may need to confirm the identity of a requester before responding, using a proportionate approach. Please write to [email protected] and describe your request clearly. We aim to address requests in accordance with the timelines required by applicable law.

9. International access and linked content

The website is intended for readers in the UK, but information on the internet can be accessed across national borders. Hosting arrangements and service-provider locations can affect where limited technical information is processed. When relevant, we consider the safeguards required for international transfers under the applicable data-protection rules. Articles may contain links to external information sources. Opening those links may allow the other website to collect information under its own policies. North & Habit does not control the design, cookies or data practices of independent third-party sites, and inclusion of a reference should not be interpreted as an agreement with every statement on that site.

10. Updates and questions

We may revise this Privacy Policy when the website, legal requirements or our handling practices change. The current wording will be published on this page. Visitors who plan to contact us are encouraged to check the form and this policy for the most relevant details. Material changes should be described clearly where practical. If you believe your information has been mishandled, please contact [email protected] so that we can examine the concern. Individuals in the UK may also have the right to raise a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office. We encourage clear communication and will consider reasonable enquiries about the information described here.
